I am currently a Doctor of Science (DSc) candidate in Professor Komurasaki's laboratory at The University of Tokyo. I belong to the Repetitively Pulsed laser propulsion team. Our study is focused on the propagation properties and dynamics of laser supported detonation (LSD) wave and its effect on thrust generation for space propulsion.
We are of the view that LSD wave is not a shock induced phenomenon and hence should be described by the theory of discharge based physics. In lieu of this, we perform plasma diagnostic studies coupled with numerical computations to further understand the LSD wave properties in order to achieve an efficient design of a laser propelled rocket in the near future.
